My name is Tanaka and I am a member of the organizing committee for Woo EC Fes Japan 2020.

We have been preparing for it since June, and the announcement site is finally ready to go live.
Thank you so much for all the help from the organizing committee for the release of the website.

Now, to coincide with the release of the site and the start of sponsorship applications, I would like to make a brief introduction.

I first came across WooCommerce 7 years ago in 2013. It was one of the plugins I found when a client asked me if I could build an e-commerce site on WordPress, and it was one of the plugins that WooCommerce 2.1 was designed to support internationalization, and at the time WooThemes, led by Mike Jolly, was developing WooCommerce At that time, there was no plugin that could actually be used in Japan. At that time, there were no plugins that could actually be used in Japan, so we used a different OSS at that time. But I was thrilled to be able to create an EC site with WordPress plugins. And of all the plugins I was able to check out, WooCommerce was the one I felt had the most potential in the code review of all the plugins for EC.

Then, over the course of 2014, my first contribution to WooCommerce was a pull request to make the code compatible with Japan for the release of WooCommerce 2.1, which was my first contribution to WooCommerce.

Seven years later, I'd like to thank the many WooCommerce users and contributors who helped us to organize the WooCommerce conference in Japan with the help of the WooCommerce Community Team.

I may be a bit self-conscious, but the number of valid installs of my Japanized for WooCommerce extension plugin [Japanized for WooCommerce], which I have developed and released for Japan, has exceeded 8,000, and the number is almost 9,000. (As of August 3, 2020)

We expect to see more and more e-commerce sites using WooCommerce in Japan in the future. On the occasion of the launch, we hope that this conference will be useful for the future and the potential of open source software in the EC industry.
